Beckett Arrives
At half past midnight on early Friday morning, April 30th, Lindsey awoke with a sense of indigestion. The Thursday happy hour at Oba, Timbers game, and late Sorbet were blamed culprits. As the bouts of indigestion became closer and more intense, it dawned on us that it was finally game time. So, we settled in. We turned the mood music on, broke-out the dryer balls, and went to work. Lindsey was in the zone. It was about 3:30 in the morning when we decided to call the hospital. They said she could choose: stay or go. So we stayed.
The contractions quickened and became very intense. She barely had a minute's rest before the next wave. It wasn't until Lindsey said she "had an urge to push" that red flags went up and we decided to head to the hospital. I made the bed, fed the cats and casually packed the bags. On the drive over, the contractions were relentless. No breaks. Lindsey was breathing through urges to push. Thank goodness we were only 15 minutes away.
We arrived at the hospital at 5:45 AM and sent straight to triage. The nurse said Lindsey was NINE centimeters and discouraged pushing for fear of tearing the last centimeter. The nurse wheeled Lindsey to the birthing suite where we were joined by a midwife. When we arrived, the nurse whispered to Lindsey that she lied in the triage room. In fact, Lindsey was a full-blown TEN centimeters upon arrival but didn't want her to push outside of the birthing suite. Lindsey walked over to the bed and braced herself standing for the next contraction. She would not sit again until Beckett was placed on her chest. A strong urge to push overcame her and she followed it. Her water broke. Four contractions later and out came Beckett at 6:35 AM with his mother standing above him.
Beckett Arthur was born at 8lbs 11oz, 21 inches after 6 hours of conscious labor.
Welcome to this world, Beckett.
We love you.
